QUESTION: What is The FlashUpdate and how exactly does it work?
ANSWER: Serious Fantasy owners know that fielding a consistent winner means intense preparation using the best intelligence possible. They understand the importance of knowing more than their opposition on any given weekend. That's why they arm themselves with the best information possible. There's simply no other way to gain an edge over the competition. And that's where the FlashUpdate comes in. ... The FlashUpdate is a password-protected, Web-based conglomeration of information that goes live every Wednesday afternoon at 14:00 pacific time and is updated continuously -- as developments warrant -- right up through Sunday morning's first kickoffs. Information is made available to subscribers according to the following weekly schedule:

PLAYER PERFORMANCE RANKINGS / Available every Wednesday at 14:00 pacific time. The FlashUpdate Player Performance Rankings offer the kind of statistical information that's essential whether you're determining weekly lineups, considering potential trades or plotting other roster moves. Specifically, the Player Performance Rankings provide subscribers with weekly position-by-position breakdowns that include every offensive skill player who touches the ball on a play from scrimmage during the course of the season -- ranked in order of Fantasy production -- with pertinent, cumulative, year-to-date stats for each. ...The Player Performance Rankings are sortable, offering subscribers the flexibility to review and compare players based on the stats that are most important to them. And of course, you also get complete unit rankings along with pertinent stats for all 31 NFL teams -- on both sides of the football. ... Players are ranked using FSP's Combination Scoring System.

EXPERT CHEATSHEETS / Available every Wednesday at 14:00 pacific time. Whether you're a Fantasy novice in desperate need of assistance or a cagey veteran, supremely confident in your ability to field a consistent Fantasy winner; it never hurts to compare notes with the pros. ... That's what we're here for: Confirm hunches; gain insight; examine situations from a different perspective. The FlashUpdate currently offers subscribers three different CheatSheets every week:
1) FSP's Staff CheatSheet -- created by FSP publisher Emil Kadlec, managing writer Bill Robertson and senior editor Bob Harris -- is updated continuously through Sunday morning and provides subscribers with a one-page, color-coded, position-by-position breakdown of all the week's top Fantasy prospects, ranked in the order we like them with updated links to pertinent news and info when applicable.
2) John Laub's CheatSheet -- created by the man behind the highly respected Audibles Web site and information service. Laub has won more than $10,000 in national Fantasy contests. John might not be infallible, but we'll put his career-track record up against anybody you'd care to name.
3) Red Eye Sports Defensive CheatSheet -- created by Internet IDP gurus Bob Henry and John Norton of Red Eye Sports.

MATCHUP NOTES / Available every Wednesday at 14:00 pacific time. Subscribers benefit from a head-to-head look at each NFL team's prospects in their upcoming contest. This section relies heavily on comparisons of offensive vs. defensive stats and rankings and also offers each team's top offensive players (passing, rushing, receiving). You'll also find a selection of notes for each game that point out any players who might have proven to be especially hot or cold in past meetings with their current opponent. ... The information provided comes from the NFL's Media Relations folks, so it's detailed and abundant. You get everything from starting times, location, playing surface, television and radio broadcast info, current stats, coaching background along with historical trends and notes based on past performances.

NFL INJURY REPORTS / Available as released by the league every Wednesday and Friday afternoon. The NFL releases its official injury report twice each week and FlashUpdate subscribers get both. Friday's updated release is color-coded to help subscribers identify players who have been upgraded or downgraded at a glance.

TEAM NOTES / Available every Wednesday night, generally by 23:00 pacific time. News, notes, rumors and other good stuff directly from the desk of FlashUpdate Editor Bob Harris. The good; the bad; and yes. ... even the Detroit Lions. There's no better way to jump start your weekend than browsing these always educational -- often irreverent -- team-by-team, Fantasy-specific offerings. ... Harris relies heavily on the experience gained covering the NFL from a Fantasy-specific perspective for the last 10 years in order to deliver a team-by-team breakdown of injury situations involving key offensive skill players, roster moves and lineup changes -- including weekly depth charts -- along with any other information that might be of interest during a given week.

LATE-BREAKING UPDATES / Posted weekly Thursday through Sunday. This is the section that sets the FlashUpdate apart from the crowd. Late-Breaking Updates usually begin in the wee hours of Thursday morning and are posted continuously -- as circumstances dictate -- right up through Sunday morning's first kickoffs. ... Updates are accessed from a list of headlines allowing subscribers to pick and choose the items they prefer based on the team involved and the headline. However, headlines rarely reflect all the information included in a given Update. While the focus is on players listed as questionable or worse on the official injury report, sharp subscribers will find a wealth of background info that slips through the cracks of the major sites and wire services.

The bottom line is this: The FlashUpdate has bee providing Fantasy football owners with vital intelligence since 1993. Meaning we’ve put dinner on the table for nine full seasons by selling information to one of the most informed and demanding audiences known to man. As a Fantasy owner you know what we’re up against. It’s like selling ice to Eskimos. Success means delivering as promised. Every day. Without fail. And that's exactly what the FlashUpdate was, is and always will be about.
